4 conditions are required to enable us to ensure the welfare of animals during their existence

• the pig shed must take advantage of natural light;

• a minimum area per pig should be provided to enable it to move and be comfortable at any time of day;

• the lying area must be good quality, clean and dry. It can be either straw or sawdust, and can never be a slatted;

• the pig shed must be well ventilated to avoid concentration of ammonia and carbon dioxide
